Haere Mai - welcome to a "virtual" running / walking event organised for Saturday 29 August 2020. Running / walking events have been cancelled or postposed due to COVID-19 but we need something to look forward and to keep the training going!

What is a virtual event? 

An event that you register for but:

  • you select the route you are running

  • you select who you are running with (if anyone)

  • you register your name and expected run time

  • On Saturday 29 August 2020 at 9 am you start your run

  • you record your time and distance using a watch or app

  • you submit your time and distance

  • you celebrate your achievement

  • you stay within whatever COVID-19 rules are in place (if any)

 

No one is confident on what we will and won't be able to do in August, but we are pretty sure coming together for a running event will not be possible or comfortable so let's organise our friends and family and work towards running or walking in our local area.

There are three different distances and you can walk, run or a combination of both. Start time 9am.

Timing will be via Strava or something similar, this will be confirmed at a later date.

Work

Get your group together or plan to run on your own.

Think about where you are going to run 'your race'

Register, run and submit your time

Participants will not be taking the same route so it will be difficult to determine a winner on who is the fastest so .... when you register you provide a time for the distance and aim to beat it.

Mapping a Route

Map My Run

Map My Run has mapping ability. How do I use it?

  • Type in starting point to get to the desired area

  • Select map or satellite depending if I want to run on or off road

  • Auto follow roads if running on road

  • Distance Markers

  • Units = metric

It is fairly accurate and quite a good way to plan a run.

You can also navigate to the Route Builder from within Strava, as follows:

  1. Hover over your Dashboard tab (top left) to open the drop down menu and select “My Routes”.

  2. Click the “Create New Route” button near the top left of the My Routes page.

  3. From there, you will be taken to the Route Builder tool.
